Rumour has it that the wives of the fisherman insisted on painting their homes varying bright colours because their bleary-eyed gentlemen would often unknowingly wander into their neighbours’ homes after a fishing expedition (or a night at the local pub). This Venetian island is also, more traditionally, famous for the ancient craft of beautiful intricate needle lace. The women of the Island became masters of this art, that is still alive and well in Burano today!
